”Six Ghosts Spell Unknown Alphabet”
For the past year or so, I've been collaborating on a huge series of drawings and collages with the above artists. We have been stuffing parcels full of paper and sending them across the ocean. We are now showing our collection of works at Norway's drawing centre, Tegnerforbundet Gallery, in Oslo. For the month of June, Jim Holyoak and I will stay in the city and continue to collaborate on site at the gallery.
I will be showing some brand new, moderately-sized paintings at this landscape exhibition in Quebec City. Please go check it out if you are there!

L’exposition Paysage actuel – Wilderness Explorations – du 6 au 30 juin 2014 – propose la rencontre d’un lieu inoccupé et d’artistes qui explorent le paysage en peinture lors d’un événement singulier qui favorise une réflexion commune, urbaine et intime. C’est niché au coeur de Saint- Roch – au 222 rue St-Joseph – que les commissaires Gabrielle Lajoie- Bergeron et Paul Brunet invitent les artistes Mathieu Cardin, Angela Dalinger, Isabelle Guimond, Jim Holyoak, Christian Messier, Nicolas Ranellucci, Matt Shane, Max Wyse et le collectif Team Macho à réfléchir avec eux à l’espace qu’occupe le paysage dans l’art actuel et aux enjeux qui y sont liés.
Le paysage est reconnu pour être un genre pictural ancré dans l’histoire de l’art. Parfois négligé, il n’en reste pas moins qu’il est désormais enraciné à notre histoire collective, sociale, voire politique. Il est un acteur omniprésent dans l’art contemporain. S’il réfère à l’environnement, aux catastrophes écologiques ou encore à la fragilité humaine, il demeure tout de même source de contemplation et de mystère où se côtoient l’infime, le sublime et le sauvage.En se réappropriant le genre paysagé, les artistes empruntent des sentiers qui interrogent les configurations naturelles et urbaines que celles-ci soient réelles ou imaginées. Dans cette exposition, le paysage est un espace où le discours laisse place au senti et à l’expérience que peut provoquer l’affect. Les oeuvres interrogent l’histoire de l’art, la nature et notre rapport à l’image dans le but de dresser un panorama des diverses pratiques actuelles en peinture.
Paysage actuel – Wilderness Explorations, qui unit les productions d’artistes de Québec, Montréal, Toronto et d’Allemagne, est aussi une réflexion sur le rôle de l’artiste dans notre culture et de l’apport possible de la peinture et du dessin comme gestes de résistance. C’est un regard porté sur la diffusion des oeuvres, un questionnement sur l’acte de faire et sur le fait d’habiter un espace à vocation non artistique, hors des sentiers balisés.

Here are some shots of the installation Jim and I made at the Métro Beaudry. It consists of 164 flying / swimming / drifting creatures, hand drawn and printed on vinyl, which was stuck to the windows.

I'm very happy to present my thesis show for graduation from Concordia's MFA program. I will be showing a selection of large paintings from the last couple years in both rooms at the McClure Gallery in Westmount.

I am one of 12 artists participating in this year's Symposium international d'art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul . My studio (in a hockey arena) will be open to public 5 days a week, and will contain a single painting that covers all of my walls. I will be working on site in the arena from August 2nd to September 1st.

Below is a stop motion that documents our drawing, 'Understory', which will be at this show. We created this piece at the Wander residency.
Jim Holyoak and I will be drawing on site at the Gemeentemuseum almost every day until July 21. We are slowly transforming our Quagmire installation by collaging irregularly shaped drawings over the existing work. A mess of paper foliage, lacy roots, moss, fungi, clouds, and small creatures will hang loosely to the wall, casting shadows on the world behind.
